Task Management in Source Code

I often see something when I am looking at source code, that I will need to address to get to where I am planning on going, but that for whatever reason, I don’t want to write at that particular moment.

Instead of popping out to another tool to record that, I just toss in a comment right where it would be relevant. This has several benefits, the first such being that the task, a “TODO” if you will, is in context. A reminder of what you were thinking the last time you looked at a segment of code is plopped down right smack in front of you when you visit again.

Envy is a green-eyed stripper*

I wrote previously about my initial reaction to The Big Word Project but it’s come up again thanks to an article in Wired with the great opening lines :

“Ready to taste envy? To burn with regret?”

OK – I can admit it, I am definitely envious…

Zod drinks Moonshine, becomes a Werewolf

One thing I neglected to mention previously, is the reason I am upgrading my slices. Because I am planning a new app, and all of my slices are pretty much single-purpose, I need to add a new one. For Fedora, the slicehost manager only offers version 8 “Werewolf” when creating new slices. The older Fedora distros have already been retired. (Fedora moves fast, with updates every six months.)

Before I added a new slice, I thought it prudent to get my older ones up to snuff, or at least to the same distro level…

Upgrading My Fedora slice

I just upgraded one of my slices from Fedora Core 6 “Zod” to Fedora 7 “Moonshine.” There were only a few complications…

A Nightmare Versus A Dream

Ben Scofield with Viget Labs stepped up to the podium last night for the April meeting of the Raleigh Ruby Brigade, held at Red Hat Headquarters. He gave us a preview of the talk he will be delivering at RailsConf 2008, entitled “Domain Modeling with REST”

Any problems with the following notes are almost certainly with my misunderstanding, and should not be blamed on the presenter…

A Visit from The IconFactory

Ged Maheux & Anthony Piraino from The IconFactory dropped by last night’s TMUG meeting, which was held for the first time on the campus of NC State University. I put on a University of North Carolina sweatshirt, held my nose, and attended anyway.

The Big Word Project, etcetera

I was chatting with Damon about some problem with Ruby’s Net::HTTP, when I asked him how things were going with his SnapTweet tie-in for Twitter. From that topic, we somehow began discussing the stupid genius of The Big Word Project.
